thursday thoughts pt. 31

I feel like this in a way really describes me. I'm not lonely, even though my mum often worries about me being so. But belonging deeply to myself is something I'd say I am, and I think the sentiment is expressed so well in that expression. Also, Warsan Shire was yet another female writer that I first thought was male. It's funny when that happens. Sometimes I'm disappointed, sometimes delighted and sometimes just surprised. (What isn't funny is that I never or very rarely have thought that a male writer was female.)

Anyway, I still have an exam next week, but I'm back! (Maybe.)

short&sweet

 Dress - Mama's old
Bandeau - Gina Tricot
Belt - Primark
Shoes - New look

This's just a quick quick quick outfit post. I haven't had too much time on my hands lately and figured I'd let you all know that as uni is keeping me quite busy, I might not be that active on the blogosphere for the next few weeks. Only a couple of exams and second year will be in the past, though! On top of exams I've also developed a cold, because that is obviously what you do when the temperature gets over 20. So my life is basically only four things right now; revision, sleep, hot drinks and some episodes of Full House. I'll try and squeeze in some catching up on comments&blogs as well! Hope you're all enjoying the sun and having a great start to the week!

thursday thoughts pt. 30

I just find this to be funny, hope you do too! I also like it because it has been named "Jones's law", which makes it mine. It is literally my law, and it is also something that I would typically do. Because I can be cheeky.

biscuit time

I made these chocolate oat biscuits sometime around Easter, and since I took photos it seemed silly not to share. These are possibly one of the simplest things to bake but that is what you want from your baked goods at times. Just something nice&quick to satisfy your wee cravings for sweet things! Somehow I associate oats with healthiness, despite the sugar and other ingredients, and cannot say no to a lil' biscuit anyway. And I suppose it isn't even surprising that I was watching Buffy while baking and eating these, hehe! Here's what you need and do, though:

3dl oats
1½dl sugar
2tbs plain flour
1½tbs cocoa powder
1tsp baking powder
1tsp vanilla
3/4dl melted butter
1 egg
For decoration: white baking chocolate & sprinkles

Mix the dry ingredients together. (Also, I didn't actually use the vanilla and don't think it's that essential!) Add butter (or similar substitute) and egg, and mix until smooth. With two teaspoons lift the mixture onto a baking tray lined with baking sheet in small knobs. Bake in 200°C for 5-7min and let cool on the tray. If you want to, decorate with melted white chocolate and sprinkles!

i'm miss sugar pink liquor, liquor lips

When it comes to make-up, I've never been one to spend too much on it. I'm more the kind of a gal that I buy a new mascara once I realize that applying the old one on my lashes is the same as using a plain brush. With the exception of nail polishes, although I've calmed down about buying those as well. But then there's times when I get really into make-up for a short - or longer - period of time and this usually happens around spring. In about a space of a month I've now spent so much more on little bits and bobs than I usually would. I don't know, maybe others buy this kinds of amounts in a week, I wouldn't know. If you follow any beauty bloggers or vloggers, you will have seen most of these being talked about somewhere on the internet at some point, but anyway, here's all the make-upy things I'm going to share with you:-)

I'd say I like the Revlon Colorburst matte balms better than the Just Bitten Kissable balm stains, but because my lips are pretty much always minorly chapped/dry, the texture of the latter is more suitable for me. I do love both of them, though! The colours are all really lovely, originally I was looking for Mischievous, but they didn't have it at the moment, so I opted for Audacious. They're quite similar, but Mischievous is more peachy and light than the pinker Audacious. You will have seen me wearing Crush in recent photos, and it really is one of my favourites at the moment.

Apparently I've become quite the fangirl of Revlon. I haven't properly tried it yet, but all the lip butters look so nice, that I couldn't resist. This's Tutti Frutti.

Lip glosses haven't been that much on my lips since I was ~18, but because I've been watching so much Youtube videos, I obviously had to be supportive and get this Tanya Burr Just Peachy lip gloss. They smell so sweet&lovely! I'd kind of forgotten how easy it is just to apply some gloss instead of a lipstick and I actually like this much more than I anticipated. And, at least this one, is pigmented enough for me and I may have to look into starting to wear lip glosses more often again.

Alongside with the Crush balm stain, this is my new favourite. I wouldn't go as far to say it's my perfect red lipstick, but it's closest I've come to find the perfect one. If you have one of the Kate Moss for Rimmel lipsticks, do they smell the same as the Kiss of Fire? 'Cause this one smells strange&sweet, and I can't quite put my finger on it. I'm not saying I don't like it, it's just different. In any case, I love the colour, and it does stay on all day so well, which is pretty much all you can ask for!

A confession: I only started using concealer this year. And this Collection Lasting Perfection one is what I'm using. It's been a small revelation. I've also been using the Revlon Photoready Skinlights face illuminator, and I do like it a lot. It adds a lovely glow to your skin and is something really simple to add to make your complexion look a bit nicer, more radiant, without much effort. (Which is ideal for a lazy Laura.)

I know I mentioned my eyebrows recently, and since then I started using this Soap&Glory Archery brow tint & precision shaping pencil. I still do occasionally find it hard to find something that I feel really matches the colour of my brows and whatever I do my first instinct is to think I've gone a bit overboard. And usually it's only a feeling. As you can see, it has a brush end and a crayon end, which is rather neat. I like how you can only use the brush to fill in or add the crayon on top to make your eyebrows a little fuller. All in all, I think I might be happy with this for a wee while now!

You know when you're at Boots and you aren't quite sure what to choose for the last of the "3 for the price of 2" items. In the end I picked up this pretty Revlon nail polish in Dreamer. I didn't have any other blue ones at the moment, so this seemed like a perfect spring colour. And also a welcomed change from the pink and red tones of everything else I've bought, haha! I was looking at the scented ones as well, but figured I'd be safe with a normal polish, haha. Have you tried the scented ones, should I give them a go?

Lastly, this isn't actually make-up, but a beauty-ish product all the same! This Soap&Glory body wash is just so good. I love the smell so much, and will definitely be looking into the other items as well. Mmmm, sugar crush. So sweet and refreshing.

Hope that was just a tiny bit interesting! Although I do enjoy my make-up, I'm such an amateur, but I love seeing what other people are adding to their make-up bags or wardrobes, and expect you do too. Let me know what you think! Maybe I'll conjure up more posts like this, maybe I won't, you never know:-)

st. george's fields, pt. 2

These are some of my favourite gravestones from the cemetery. Basically, if there's something interesting about it, I will like it! And more than often more elaborate and ornate ones are what catches my fancy. For example, the headstone with the "Be ye also ready" text is absolutely gorgeous. "Be ye also ready" is something I'd consider getting on my stone instead or with "Thy will be done". I also imagine that the fishermen and bag are there to indicate one's trade, which is pretty sweet. As is the last photo. I didn't even realize the fancy horse picture that initially captured me was a fire carriage thingy and that it was actually a fireman's memorial.

Another person at the cemetery, that possibly says nothing to a normal human being, is Michael Sadler. In any case, the big white statue is of him, and as I go to a Michael Sadler building at least once a week, it was quite cool to see him there as well. That's about it from my latest cemetery adventure. But, fear not, there's even a small corner of St. George's Fields that I didn't have the time to explore and there's bound to be more posts of me rambling on about graves. I'm a wee bit obsessed. And it seems like I'm not the only one who thinks cemeteries are something special!

because i'm happy

Here's the next 18 pictures in my 100 happy days challenge! You may have already seen them on Instagram, but that's cool. I'm not even half-way through yet, and I think I didn't realize how long 100 days will take. Not that I'm going to quit, though!

1. The Easter parcel my mum sent!
2. And my favourite thing in it: mämmi!
3. An excited wee Laura on her St. George's Fields exploration! It was super windy.
4.  During the holiday I got into the habit of squeezing fresh orange juice, but I've already stopped.. Sigh.
5. Sunny days:-)
6. Baking!
7. And, obviously, after baking; lots of sweet things to eat, like this bird's nest cake!
8. I'm trying to wreck my journal and be an explorer of the world a bit more often:-)
9. Honestly, this Burt's Bees Soap Bark & Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream was so good. It left my face so soft that I'm thinking of repurchasing.. And it smells nice too!

1. Painting Easter eggs! I only painted my Mignon chocolate egg and came to realize that I'm a bit out of practice.
2. Aren't these just the cutest of chocolates?
3. Biscuits! I might have a recipe for these somewhere in my drafts where I've not decided if it'll be published or not, haha.
4. Thursday thought.
5. An oldie of me and lil' Patra♥ Think this is from around 2007? That is actually so old, oh my!
6. Eye. When I took this, I was probably just pleased with my eye make-up, haha. But look at my odd eye colour, ugh! I know I must've mentioned that my eyes are gradually always changing colour. Here you can actually see the blue edges that have almost completely changed to green and the inner brown is growing larger. I do wonder if my eyes will one day be completely brown..
7. Going to the shop, but first let me take a selfie. (Sorry.) I've finally made up my mind, though, and I'm now wearing maxis! This grey one's the first.
8. Pressing flowers!
9. I'm still going on about Buffy. I've finished rewatching the last season and I still can't snap out of my obsession. I thought I'd take a break by watching Adventure Time (which is good, does anyone watch that, or am I the only one strange enough?) but all I can think about is Buffy. I might have to delve into Angel next, I just can't help myself.

What's up in your lives? Anything new you've started to like, any nice shows you've been watching?

thursday thoughts pt. 29

I'm 99% sure that this is the first "Thursday thought" that is lyrics instead of a "proper" quote. I do love Queen though (as you should know!) and I love this quote. It's sweet and sad, which is often the perfect combination. If you do have an opinion on the matter, let me know if you prefer seeing quote-quotes, lyrics or both!

Also, happy 1st of May! (Where has all the time gone?)
